WEATHER DELAY IN TAIPEI

Taipei is a beautiful city, quite westernized with lots to offer.  We've continued to include it as a stop on our Journeys as a nice stop but also to update ourselves on the latest technologies - Taipei offers a variety of technology and all the advancements we could imagine - a techy's paradise!

Flying in this part of the world is more complicated than usual due to the need for permissions on everything - entering countries, entering airspace, overflying countries, landing in countries, etc. Any slight deviation from the plans requires time to update and request the new permissions.

Our next planned destination is Manado, Indonesia after a tech stop for fuel in Subic Bay, Philippines.

The briefs are ready, the permission for Indonesia is finally obtained and we are told that we can expect the finalized permits for Indonesia upon arrival in Subic Bay...not my ideal situation but since we have been there before and our previous experience obtaining the permits have always been received at the last minute, I am good to go.

The next hurdle is weather. Safety is the main concern on all of our flights and our Journeys.

There is a weather system parked at the southern tip of Taiwan , between the island of Taiwan and the Philippines.

We have access to satellite photos of the weather system, along with radar - and both are showing a not so inviting flying environment.

We have made the decision to delay our departure until tomorrow.

The pilots are still heading to the airport today, under sunny skies, to prepare the planes and complete some database updates.

While there we were tempted by a couple of new birds
