A VISIT TO THE CAPITAL - TAIPEI, TAIWAN

With a time gain during our flight from Nagoya to Taipei, we arrived in Taipei on the earlier side allowing for a relaxing afternoon. Officially the Republic of China, the island of Taiwan was formerly known as Formosa, named by the Portuguese for its beautiful coastline.

Taipei, our home for the next 2 nights, is the capital of Taiwan and home to gadgets, gizmos, temples and the fastest elevator in the world. It used to be home to the largest building in the world but thanks to the Burj Khalifa and 5 other recent builds, Taipei's landmarked building,Taipei 101, now stands as the 7th tallest building in the world. 101 signifies unique or like no other in Chinese culture.

On the agenda for our time in Taipei was a visit to Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial for it's famous changing of the guards ceremony, a ride in the world's fastest elevator, the observatory of Taipei 101 and the world's only visible wind/earthquake damper and a visit to the electronics store.
