AUSTRALIA WESTBOUND TO KANGAROO ISLAND

After a great, rewarding, discovery of Sydney, we are heading west to Kangaroo Island to see the kangaroos and koala in the wild.

We are briefed and ready. The flight was uneventful, however, we need to mention the strong cross winds we had on take off (up to 25 knots). We had turbulence until 8,000 feet and a strong headwind as we flew west. This makes us think that our circumnavigation for next time is better suited in reverse.

Our destination airport is Kingscote on Kangaroo Island. The airport has 6 runways and no control tower. We were given local weather  reporting and read the NOTAM indicating that only one of the six runways is in use.

Since this is a non-controlled airport, we need to cancel our flight plan while in the air.

We received a very nice welcome from the local airport authorities - a husband and wife team. Before long we jumped in our transfers on the way to the Southern Ocean Lodge, our home for the next 2 nights, all the while trying to spot kangaroos.
