LUXOR DIVERSION

During the preliminary planning of the Journey, several of the group had requested the opportunity to visit Egypt. With our scheduled stop to Heraklion, Crete, we were able to make the switch for those 5 airplanes of the group that wanted to experience this ancient destination.

N510CZ opted to stick with the initial plan and headed to Crete via Hurghada, Egypt. A great tech stop destination with efficiency!

The rest of the aircraft are going to Luxor, Egypt, via a variety of routes - the CJ3 is able to go nonstop, the Mustang is routing through Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the TBMs and PC-12 are going through Medina, Saudi Arabia. Why the necessity for a tech stop for most of the planes? Well, our departure out of Dubai is taking us via Omani airspace which is adding roughly 150 nautical miles to the route. Plus, with head winds against us, we don't want to take any chances - safety first, always!

We couldn't have asked for a better flying day - the weather is gorgeous.

Our departure out of Dubai is a piece of cake with great handling at Al Maktoum airport. Within minutes we are requesting start up clearance and taxiing. '

Upon arrival in Luxor, we were greeted by our handler who had two fuel trucks waiting for us.
