FROM TRANQUILITY TO CHAOS - AHMEDABAD, INDIA
After receiving the cost of landing in Mumbai, nearly $3,500 per
aircraft, and the recent flooding the city has been experiencing, we decided to
swap Mumbai, India, for Ahmedabad, India - a destination we have been too
several times on previous Journeys Around the World. Why Ahmedabad? Ahmedabad
is Ghandi's birth place and within the last few months has become the first
UNESCO World Heritage city in India.
We left our paradise that is the Maldives, filled with calmness
and tranquility, and headed north for Ahmedabad, where we were met with chaos
and noise.
Our flight was uneventful with blue skies throughout. Upon
arriving to India's coast, a layer of haze filled the air. Compared to our
usual visit to Ahmedabad, where we are met with barren fields, we were greeted
with green pastures and bustling farmland - the difference between pre-monsoon
and post-monsoon season.
Once on the ground we were greeted by our handlers and 15 of his
friends. Although a crowd was there, no one seemed to be doing anything. A lot
of waiting around, a lot of nonsense, a lot of misunderstandings and a lot of
wasted time.
We decided to take things into our own hands and started making
moves. One 5 seater car for all 15 of us and our luggage wasn't going to cut
it. We split into smaller groups and started the process to exit the airport.
Nothing came easy and so much time was wasted but we were finally out of the
airport and on our way to the Park Hyatt Ahmedabad, our home for the next 2
nights.
