ONE PLANE IN CRETE

While the rest of the group opted to divert to Luxor, Egypt, to discover it's ancient history, the CJ3+ stayed on course with the planned schedule and flew to Heraklion, Crete. John, Karen and Anais were ready to discover a different type of ancient history - that of the Minoan civilization.

John and Karen were joined by John's sister, Celeste and her husband John. We set out from the Amirandes Resort, our home while in Crete, for Knossos Palace, considered to be Europe's oldest city dating back to the Bronze Age.

Our guide Kalia was wonderful as we maneuvered through Knossos Palace's ruins. Uncovered by Sir Evans, it is now the largest archaeological site on Crete.

After Knossos, we headed to the Heraklion Archaeological Museum  to see the Minoan artifacts they have found throughout the island of Crete. The collection is impressive and the condition of which these items were found is in incredible. A great visit showing the lifestyle of the Minoan civilization and home to the fresco paintings delicately removed from Knossos Palace for safe keeping.

We now enter the Heraklion Archaeological Museum:

believed to be the first example of writing in history. It has never been translated although scholars continue to attempt to read it to this day.
